Trade promotions fail quietly when the field receives a dense deck and no store-level instructions. Sell-in may look fine while shoppers never see the offer.
A usable brief fits on one page: mechanic, dates, qualifying SKUs, POS pieces, talk track for the owner, and three verification photos. If it needs a meeting to explain, it is not ready for the route.
Translate retailer terms into outlet language. “Scan deal week 12–13” means little at a family-run store; “discount sticker on the hero pack, flyer on the counter” does.
Close the loop with a short post-promo note: what landed, what was blocked, and what to change next cycle. That habit turns promotions into a learning system rather than a calendar of surprises.
